Women’s day is all about celebrating womanhood.
But isn’t it the organic synergy between two contrary forces - the yin(woman) and the yang(man) that makes womanhood possible in the first place?
Apart from the natural biology and life experiences that affirm womanhood, it is also the people, culture, and society who are a part of those experiences. And when I talk about people, the story of my life would be incomplete without mentioning the men who equally held my back.
This women’s day, here post is dedicated to the “men in my life”, and all those men who stood for women in their lives enabling them to break all biases across cultures and societies.
The two obvious Men! 🤗
It goes without saying that for every girl the 1st man in her life is her father. He was a firm parent, brimming with his youthful vigor. I hated it as a child. But in his vigor were also glimpses of sincerity, and hard work on one side, and relishing experiences while balancing the practicalities of life on the other. I am a confident, independent, and balanced woman – part of which I owe to him.
What about my playful side? Well, a million thanks to my grandfather! He was a personification of “Live life king size!” His words “Nanu Maasi, Gir gir k bade hote hain(learn from mistakes)” and “Baantne se pyaar badhta hai(sharing is caring)” live on, though the man who said them is no more. As a woman love, togetherness, and courage are values I inherited from this man of my life.
A good teacher is like a candle—it consumes itself to light the way for others.
I cannot miss mentioning my math teacher who made a subject I hated “fun to learn”. I wish I had more teachers like him. Learning would have been so much fun! Persistence and practice were his mantras, and I thank this man of my life for infusing them in me.
The camera man! 😎
I met this man early in my career. Our cameras bought us together. From being scared to talk to him, eventually came a point when he had to say “Nikki, chup karegi thodi der please! 🙏(stop talking please!)”. I call him Sree Baba, for all the gyaan he kept bombarding me with. I haven’t seen anyone as altruistic and humble as him. As a woman, he is the man I look up to for these values.
Run by chance!! 😇
It was a fortunate coincidence when I started running with Mr. Rajesh Vetcha 2 years ago. From one run to the next and the next…and so on…there is no Sunday run that we haven’t run together since then! What started with running together grew into a lasting companionship. Call him my mentor, coach, running soulmate, or just a friend, he is the man who inspires me to do more and be better than who I was yesterday. I look up to him for leading a life of purpose and meaning.
They say “believe in yourself because nobody else will”. But these are the men of my life who believed in me and continue to do so when I am in doubt.
Behind every successful man, there is a woman. Behind every successful woman, there is a man too - Sacrificing, supporting, and paving way for her to be the woman she deserves to be!!
It’s the synergy between the two forces - Yin(Woman) and the Yang(Man) that make womanhood possible in the first place.
This Women’s Day cheers to all the women and a shout out to the men who had their back, enabling them to break all biases across cultures and societies. 👫
